MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

To-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court was presided over by Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M. Carrie Corbett, against whom there were a large number of previous convictions, pleaded not guilty to a charge of using obscene language. She was convicted and ordered to spend six months in the Salvation Army Home. Three first offending inebriates were dealt with in the usual way. Another, out on bail, was fined 10s, with the alternative of twenty-four hours' imprisonment. William Morrison denied an allegation of being an idle and disorderly person, 'j-he police gave accused a bad character as a habitue of hotel bars, doing no work, but sponging from semi-inebriated persons. Morrison was convicted and sentenced to three months' imprisonment. An elderly man named Samuel Faby jJunning appeared to answer a charge that on the Ist inst. he stole from the dwelling-house of Daniel Smith, a South African medal, 13 ties, 3 brushes, a skull cap, a looking-glass, and a tie-pin, of the total value of £6 2s 6d, the property of Thomas Hopo. On the application of Chief Detective Broberg, his Worship granted a remand till to-morrow. Cecila M'lntosh, for drunkenness, was fined 20s, with the alternative of seven days' imprisonment.
