An Anglo-Italian syndicate is transforming one of the small towns on Lake Maggiore (one of the chief lakes of northern Italy) into a rival of Monte Carlo. The capital of the syndicate is £160,000 sterling. The newspaper II Secolo states a syndicate has also been formed to promote I gambling palaces at Madeira, and that | the capital subscribed totals half-a-million pounds.
