DISSATISFIED PLAYERS.

ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL. Over forty players of the Association game assembled last evening to discuss the action of the Council of the New Zealand Football Association in rejecting Mr. W. Wood as referee in the recent Brown Shield match, after he had been appointed to the position by tho New Zealand Referees' Association. Mr. J. J. Roberts presided. A unanimous vote of sympathy with Mr. Wood was passed, and his capabilities as a referee were highly praised. During a lengthy subsequent discussion, a number of grievances were ventilated, and strong criticism was passed against the governing bodies of the game in Wellington. The practice of apportioning the senior matches among a special coterie of referees received strong condemnation, there being equally capable referees, it was said, who are put down for boys' matcßes. So far as the voting was concerned, the Wellington Football Association, the Referees' Association, and the New Zealand Football Association, were, it was said, practically one body, controlled by a particular section throughout. Ultimately it was decided that a deputation wait on the Management Committee to-morrow nignt with a view of I making a general statement of grievances in connection with the control of the game. Failing a reception 1 by the Management Committee, it was decided to send a vigorously-worded protest, and to make strenuous efforts to introduce "fresh blood" into the controlling body next season.
