Sir William Quiller Orchardson, Pi. A., D.C.L., who wat knighted in 1907, was bnpn in Edinburgh in 1835, wa* educated in Scotland, and fir.it exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy. In 1863 he uune to London and exhibited in the- Royal At-adem/ and hag ever »iiu9 retained a wide* popularity as a painter of portrait* and "subject pictuieH." In 1868 he was elected A.R.A., and It.
