The following appeared in our Extra Edition of ye tier day ;— SLY-GROG CASE. - > ■ DEFENDANT FINED £20. Following on tho numerous prosecutions during the last few weeks in connection with allegations for breaches of the Licensing Act, the police took proceedings in the Magistrate's Court this afternoon, before Mr. W. R. Hasclden, S.M., against Charles Watkins, who was charged with not being a licensed person. He sold beer to A. Anderson. Accused pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector Norwood stated that on the 26th March two probationers, one of whom was informant, were escorted to accused's place in Frederickstreet, where on more than one occasion they were supplied with liquor. The house was occupied by a prohibited person, with whom accused was boarding. No defence was offered by Watkins. He was fined £20, with costs 7s. Penalty for default was fixed at one month's imprisonment.
