TO-DAY'S RACING.

WELLINGTON AUTUMN MEETING. (Per Pigeon Express.) TRENTHAM, This Day. For the second day of the Wellington Racing Club's Autumn Meeting, the weather is fine, with a strong breeze blowing. There is a large attendance. Results :— SECOND HURDLE HANDICAP, of 200 soys ; second horse to receive 35 soys, and the third 15 soys from the stake. One mile and a-half. W. Won easily by half a length. HUTT HANDICAP, of 150 soys; second 20 soys, and third 10 soys from stake. One mile. 2 Middleton Melrose's b m Trugauini, by Merriwee — Heart Whist, syrs, 9.9 (W. Though the field was apparently in a good line wlien the tape rose, they left the mark in straggling order. The first to move were Aboriginal, Mataari, Bolhn, and Truganini, whilst Adria and Hilarian got badly left. The order was unchanged until four furlongs from home, when Aboriginal lost his place, and Mataari went to the front. Turning for home, Mataari was a length ahead of Bollin, whilst Truganini was prominent on the outside. Tho last-named was in front just inside the distance, and coming on full of running, won easily by two lengths. Mataari was a similar distance away third, and Swimming Belt fourth. Time, lmin 41 4-ssec. MURITAI HANDICAP, of 100 soys; second 15 soys, and third 10 soys. from the stake ; seven furlongs. 5 H. R. Douglas, and trained by owner.) St. Felix was the first to find his feet, and led up the back stretch from Ideal ism and 'Ukraine. Three furlongs from home Leahora ran past Idealism, the order being St. Felix, Leahora, Idealism, and San Lass, whilst Royal Marine was a long way back. At the distance St. Felix, Leahora, and San Lass were racing abreast, and the last-named, outstaying his opponents, got home by a head. St. Felix was half a length away third and Ukraine was fourth. At a conference of delegates from the various racing dubs on the We^t Coast held at Reefton this week, it was decided the clubs at Westport, Reefton, Greymouth, Kumara, and Hokitika (the latter coming under th<* Grey Metro politan body) should combine and appoint one handicapper and one starter for all meetings. In regard u> the former, it was decided to call for applications for the position at £210 per annum Mr. D. Keith, of Palmenston North, has been re-appointed starter to the West Coast Club 3 for next season. The Otago pporteman. Mr. W. R. Crossan has purchased Tawhaki, Stayboy, and a Gold Reef filly from J. M'Combe. but the latter will still have the training of the trio. It is quite on the cards (says the Christchurch Press) that J. M'Combe may take out a jockey's license again m the near future.
