BISHOP OF LINCOLN.

CANON HICKS APPOINTED. By lelegraph.— Press Association.-Copyrigbt. LONDON, Bth April. The Rev. Edwaud Lee Hicks, Canon Residentiary of Manchester Cathedral, and Rector of St. Phillips, Salforcl, has been appointed Bishop of Lincoln, in succession to the late Dr. King. The new Bishop was born at Oxford in 1843, and educated .it Magdalen College School, Oxford, and Brasenose College, Oxford (8.A.). He was a Fellow and Tutor of Corpus Christ College, Oxford, 1866 : rector of Fenny Compton, near Leamington, 1873 ; and First Priiicipal of Hulme College, Manchester, 1886. He is a corresponding member of the imperial Archaeological Society of Germany, and a great temperance worker. Among his publications are :—: — "(Ireek Inscriptions in the British Museum," " Manual of Greek Historical Inscriptions," "Inscriptions of Cos" (with W. I\. Paton), 'and "Henry Bazely, tho Oxford Evangelist."
