FEILDING, Bth April. A large and representative meeting of delegates of school committees of the district was held here to-day, when a district branch of the School Committee*' Association was formed. It was decided to take steps to enter a united protest against the action of the Education Department in reducing the giant to education boards, and in withdrawing the capitation grant to school committees. NAPIER, Bth April. The result of the election to fill the vacancy oa the Hawkes Bay Land Board, caused by Mr. Eustace Lane, repreKentativo of Crown tenants, forfeiting his seat by absence from meetings, was made known to-day. Mr. Lane was again returned, the voting being : — Mr. Lune 318 votes, Mr. A. C. B. Munvo 210. It may be remembered that Mr. Lane, after being ejected from a meeting of the board at Gisborne, had intimated that he would not tit again until he received reparation. A meeting of employers interested in the new demands filed by the Wellington bianch of tHe Amalgamated Society of Engineers was held to-day. It was resolved to protect against no meeting of tho Conciliation Council being held in Natier, and unless a sitting is arranged to c held in Napier tho Hawkes Bay employers will nut appear before the council, nor will they Agree to be bound by any agreement come to at the Wellington Kitting, but will refer the dispute to tbo Arbitrution Court io far as , Hawkti Buy it conptrotd.
