CONDITIONAL LICENSES: THE TARANAKI CASE.

NEW PLYMOUTH. 6th April. In reference to a telegram from Wellington dealing with a conditional license for the Wellington lactf., there appears to be a misconception of the decision of Mr. Fitzberbert, Stipendiary Magistrate at New Plymouth, which vras mentioned in the telegram. The farts were that the Stratford Licencing Committee hvued a conditional license to a publican in tbeir district to tako effect in tho. Taranaki district. 'Ihe Magistrate held* that the committee had no power to do so, and that only the Taranalti Licensing Committee could ir.«uo Mich a licence. He, therefore, held that r.o valid license had been issued, and consequently the man was celling without a license, hence the fine.
