The Vatican authorities are astounded at the action of Mr. Roosevelt in publishing his correspondence with jthc Vatican, the letters being regarded as diplomatic documonts. Mr. Roosevelt's secretary, who Is a Roman Catholic, interviewed Cardinal Merry Del Val, Papal Secretary. The latter asked for a guarantee that Mr. Roosevelt would not visit the Methodist Church in Rome-, which, Cardinal Merry Del Vnl stated, was countenancing, a most offensive campaign of calumnious detraction against the Pope. Mr. Roosevelt's secretary refused to give the required (guarantee. The real cause of tha Pope not receiving Mr. C. W.
