IMPRESSIONS OF AUSTRALASIA.

*- SIR C. LUCAS'S REPORT. ADVANTAGES OFFERED BY NEW ZEALAND. By j>l€graph.— Press Association.— Copyrli&c. | LONDON, sth April. A Parliamentary paper has been passed containing a record of the impressions of Sir Charles Lucas, head of the Dominions Department of the Colonial Office, during his recent visit to Australia and New Zealand. He insists on the necessity of quicft mail services. He states that one good result of the Press Conference was to strengthen the movement for cheaper telecrnuns. He would welcome cheaper cor t inication to enable Laboui representatives to visit England Nothing is more admirable in Australian public life than the effort to keep permanent officials outside the scope of political influence. It would be difficult, says Sir Charles, to point to any part- of the world combining more advantages within the same space than New Zealand. British interests in the Pacific call imperatively for much better communication between the Pacific Islands. There is, he adds, considerable keenness in Australia and New Zealand for extended openings lor their youth in thfe Imperial services.
