M'Kenzie, Minister of Public Work*, dealing with the allegation of unfair treatment of the North It-land in the matter of railways expenditure, points out that. £72,000 of the South Island railways voto last year was for works completed £ome time ago, and that for roads last year the North Island was voted £195,000 more than the South Island. The combined votes were: — North Island, £635,750; South Island, £603,743.
