TRAMWAY MATTERS.

LYALL BAY TRAFFIC. THE WADESTOWN LINE. Tramway traffic from Lyall Bay continues heavy. During the recent fine weather it has maintained itself wonderfully well, and added to the tramway revenue. The success of the Lyall Bay route does not seem to have affected the Island Bay traffic injuriously, as increases are reported from that quarter also. Apparently the round trip, with the walk from Lyall Bay to Island Bay or vice versa, is becoming more and more popular. The new road through Happy Valley has also drawn its share of week-end pedestrian*. Formalities finally settled, work on the Wades town tramway will probably commence on the 23rd April. The more difficult pieces of excavation will be taken first. When the tunnels and cuttings are finished the construction of the line will start at Park-street. Tho council will probably undertake the work throughout.
