BREACHES OF THE LICENSING LAWS. RESERVED JUDGMENTS. Some important judgments arising out of a series of police prosecutions for alleged breaches, of the Licensing Ait weie delivered in the Magistrate's Court to-day by Mr. W. R. Haselden, S.M. Two licensees were concerned in the cases. All the alleged breaches were committed on Sunday, the 13th March. In connection with the charges against Catherine M'Enroe, licensee of the Britannia Hotel, that she unlawfully kept the premises open for the sale of liquor on Sunday, the 13th March, and that she supplied liquor to John M. Morris on the same date, evidence had been given that two police probationers, under the escort of a porter, were served with drink in the bathroom of the hotel. The magistrate convicted and fined accu.«ed £10, with costs, on the latter charge. The former information was dismissed. Arising out of the same prosecution was a charge against Kate M'Enroe that on the 13th March she supplied beer to a person not entitled to be supplied with liquor. This information was also dismissed. Mr. Fitzgibbon appeared for both defendants. Another decision given was that relative to the prosecutions against George Pinnock, licensee of the Commercial Hotel, charged with keeping his premises open and exposing liquor for sale on Sunday, the 13th inst., and selling beer on the same date to Daniel Anderson, who was not a lodger at the time. In evidence it was stated that a sergeant and constable entered the hot-el on the Sunday night, and found about a dozen men drinking in a room adjoining the bar, which was lighted as usual. For illegally selling beer defendant was fined £10, with costs. The remaining two informations were dismissed. Mr. Hcrdman was for defendant. A third judgment was that dealing with the charge against George Robertson Gray, a prohibited person, that on the 13th March he- procured liquor from Edward Towersey. There was also a charge against the latter that he procured liquor for Gray, knowing that he was a prohibited person. .Informant in this instance- was a probationer, who stayed at the same boardinghpuse as Gray and Towersey. Each defendant was" fined ss, with costs. They we're defended by Mr. M'Grath. Pleas of guilty were entered on behalf of Mr. Herdman. apearing for Frederick Male and Arthur Logan, who were charged with haying been unlawfully in the Commercial Hotel after closing hours.
