GOLF.

MIRAMAR. The opening of the Mlramar Golf Club's season took placo on Saturday afternoon. The weather was fine and some interesting games were played. Before play started, Mr. T. Ward, captain of the club, in the course of a short address, alluded to the improvements which ore now being carried out for the convenience of members. Miss Ward won the ladies' handicap diiving competition, Miss K. Gray being second, and Miss Standisb third. Mrs. Watkins won the ladies' approaching and putting. There were a great many competitions. Mr. W. Hortoy won the men's approaching and putting. The men's driving competition resulted:— B. L. Taylor, 215 yds, 1 ; E. Y. Mills, 210 yds, HUTT. The Hutt Club also opened its season on Saturday, the foimal ceremony being performed by Mr. Allan, captain of the club. The course was ip good order, many improvements having been effected during the past twelve months. The following cards were handed in: — Mibs Ruddock and R. Cullender, 5 down ; Mrs. Wagg and Balneavis, 5 down; Mrs. Murpny and Wagg, 6 down ; Miss Parsons and Kirk, 6 down ; Mus Climie and Climie, 7 down ; Mrs. Watkins and Frater, 7 down ; Miss Foster and Allan, 7 down ; Mrs. Baxter and Murphy, 8 down ; Mts. H. Rose and Pearson, 8 down ; Mrs. Hayward and G. W. Callender, 9 down. The tie between Messrs. Balneavis and Callendev resulted in a win for Balneavis and his partner. The Erizes for the competition were donated y the captain, Mr. C. ■&. Allan. The first ladies' competition takes place on Wednesday next. LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP. » - -.
