MEETING OF THE SENATE. RESULTS OF EXAMINATIONS. The Senate of the University of New Zealand held its April special meeting on Saturday afternoon in the board room of the New Zealand Institute. There were present : The Chancellor (Sir Robert Stout), Professor J. Macmillan Brown (Christchurch). Professor J. Rankine Brown (Wellington), the Rev. Mr Cameron (Dunedin), Professor Ghilton (Christchurch), the Hon. Dr. Collins (Wellington), the Rev. W. A. Evans (Wellington), Mr. G. XI. Hogben (Wellington), Mr. H. F. yon Haast (Wellington), Professor R. Scott (Christchurch), Professor' Shand (Dunedin). The senate met chiefly to consider and confirm" tho reports ot the examiners in England on the last November examinations. , SCHOLARSHIPS. Mr. C M. Stubbs, of Canterbury College, was nominated, on the recommendation of the English examiners, as the 1851 Exhibition Science Scholar for 1910. The following were awarded Senior* Scholarships : — 'Auckland — 'Mary E. ClaTke (English), Kate V. Edgerley (botany), W. A. Gray (p«t« mathematics) ; Victoria— R. H. Biggar (Latin), Bertha I. L. Reeve (applied mathematics), S. T. C.Sprott (Greek); Canterbury—Alice M. F. Candy (economics), Kdith A. Jackson (heat), Helen P. Leversedge (French) ; Otago— H. XL Budd (electricity and geology), Gladys M. Cameron (zoology), Bertha Xluller (German), J. H. Murdoch (English), Agnes C. Wix (heat). APPLICATIONS. Ad application of a graduate in mining engineering to have his work counted to credit towards a medica) course, as in the case of B-A. or B.Sc. courses, .was granted. The senate refused to grant permission to a New Zealander, now resident in South Africa, to sit for the matriculation examination in Rhodesia. The senate also refused the application of a graduate in dental surgery of the University of Pennsylvania to be certified for registration in New Zealand, on the ground that the interpretation placed on the regulations dealing with foreign diplomas at the last annual meeting excluded the applicant's diploma. It was pointed out that the Dentists Act distinctly provided an examination for such cases of refusal. OTHER MATTERS. Owing to the absence of Mr. W. Izard, of Christchurch, Professor Salmond was appointed examiner in the legal examinations in property, part 1, for May, 1910. The select-ion of special campaigns under the subject "Military Science," as recently prescribed for B.A. was left to the Wellington members of the Military Science Committee. LOCAL SUCCESSES.
