ROSS GOLDFIELDS. [BY TfXEGK'APH— VB.ZSS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Ist April. Dr. Neeley, chairman ot directors of Ross Goldfields, Ltd., reports that the cngineci eUtcs that tho plant is run ning smoothly and satisfactorily. Tho old workings have been un watered now for three weeks., duriny which period the chamber for the stationary pumps has been practically finished at the seventh level. These pumps are on tho ground, together with all pipes and connections. Each pump has an electrical motor of 240 horsr-power, and i* capable of rak-ing 250 gallons more than two sinking pumps, which have unwatered the mine. On Wednesday last the manager and one of the directors explored completely for tho first time the old workings at the seventh level, and fouud the faces and timbering in a very tatisfoctory condition, after being under water tor a quarter of a ccntuiv. On Thursday the mine manager took thre9 pans of dirt from three separate face?, haphazard, the result being satisfactory to the manuring engineer. Taken on an average,- it js estimated th.it the result of these three pans of dirt show that the mine will pay on par capital, after paying running expenses. Ventilating pipes are being put in between the sixth and seventh levels, to ensure a current of air. The mine manager further states that he can plain, ly see thp.t the watei that evidently drowned the pumps previously used to I come in from the old Cassius workings.
