♦ i CONTROL OF RATES. Bjr Telegraph.— Press Assosintion.-Copyricut, OTTAWA, Ist April. lue Canadian Houte of Commons has adopted a Bill giving the Railway Commission control of the rates and facilities of the cablo companies. Mr. Lomieux, Po»tm<»6t«r-General, 6tated that the Motherland has promk>ed to enact concurrent legislation. Ho had decided to get from the cable companies a schedule of rates satisfying the public and the press. He proposed that urgent messages should remain at one shilling a word, feerni-urgent should be sixpence a word, and the press rate should be threepence. The Government Bill respecting ocean cable companies is designed to secure lower rates for both private and press messages between Canada and the Motherland. By being made eubjeel to" the jurisdiction of the Ruilway CommiV fcicu, as is now the case with the telegraph and telephone companies, the cable companies will (iecently stated the Ottawa correspondent of The Times) oe required to disclose tho full particulars of their business in .order to justify their present charges, which are held to be .abnormally high. It is expected tb«t concurrent legislation will be enacted by/ tho British Parliament.
