The birth-rotes vary appreciably in the different parts of the Urnled Kingdom. In England and Wales the bkih-rate has fallen pretty steadily from 31.4 in 1891 to 25.48 la*t .veai-. * Iti Scotland it lias', fallen from 20.7 in 1891 to 16.0 in 1905, and 16.2 in 1907. In Ireland tho rate has varied but little. It was 18.4 in lUyi, went up to 15.4 in 1892. and 19.6in 1900, and went down to 1617 in 1896. In 1906 it was 17.X), and 1987, 17.7.
