UNITED STATES AND CANADA. TARIFF AGREEMENT. Bj Telegraph.— Press Atsociatlon.— Copyright. WASHINGTON, 30th March. The tariff agreement between the United States and Canada has been defined in an exchange of notes, in which Mr. Knox, United States Secretary of State, dwells on the tendencies towards a more perfect understanding between tho two countries, hoping that their growing trade will bo fostered without impairing their national and economic policies. President Taft ia confident that the policy of broader and closer commercial relations will receive tho hearty support of the nation. He suggests that Sir Wilfrid Laurier (Canadian Prime Minister) should consider tho readjustment of relations between the two countries on broader and more liberal lines. Mr. Feilding (Canadian Minister for Finance), referring to the tariff reductions, says .they were effected with a view to settling present differences and meeting Washington's desire to facilitate reciprocity negotiations. He expressed satisfaction that the United States had not been disposed to press earlier contentions respecting Canada's commercial treaties, which he, from a Canadian standpoint, was unable to admit. -*
