POLLARD'S OPERA COMPANY DISBANDING.

Pollard's Opera Company is to disband at Timaru in April, and the Australian members will proceed to their homes a couple of days later. Mr. DvTal explains that this step ha& been caused, firstly, by increased railway fares, secondly by increased rent* of theatres, and "thirdly by the opposition of picture shows at cheap prices in almost every town in the Dominion. Mr. Duval say's that, .the disbandment of the Pollards " means that some 200 people are thrown out of employment, though, no doubt, some of the principals will ■oon be employed elsewhere^ — possibly on the vaudeville stage. He adds that the outlook for other than high-priced entertainments is unpromising while the picture fever lasto.
