WAIRAU VALLEY GOLD MINING COMPANY.

» „ ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of the above company was held at the Chamber of Commerce, Wellington, last night. Forty shareholders were either present or represented by proxy. Mr. W. A. Chote, Chairman of Directors, occupied the chair. The report and balance-sheet, which were tsken as read, stated that the low level drivo had been going through a very hard class of country, and that up to the date of the meeting the directors estimated that 645 feet had been driven. It is hoped to .strike tho ■ reef at 700 feet. The job is at present being carried on under contract by Messrs. Jackson and party. In November last, m response to a deputation of the directors, introduced by the Hon. 0. H. Mills, the Minister of Mines agreed to subsidise this driving to the extent of 5s per foot, up to 201) feet, this concession being granted after an inspection had been paid to the mine by the Mines Inspector. The report stated that 1660 shares had been forfeited by the directors. It was unanimously resolved that a letter of condolence and sympathy should be written to Mrs. Coveney, widow of the late Mr. T. P. Coveney, for many years chairman and director of the company, who died a few months ago. The meeting recognised ihe valuable services that had been rendered to the company by Mr, Coveney during the whole of his term of office. The retiring directors, viz., Messrs. t W. A. Chote, D. Robertson, J. Wright, R. Sloan, C. Young, J. A. Baron, and, W. Farquhar, were re-elected. Mi. George Ross, auditor, was also re-elect-«d. The meeting concluded with a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman and the directors.
