THE TRAGEDY IN A HUNGARIAN VILLAGE. DANCERS CRUSHED AND TRAMPLED ON. By Telegraph. — Press Association.— Copyright. VIENNA, 29th March. In connection with the destruction by fire- of a dancingroom in the inn at Oekverito, a Hungarian village, it transpires that tho room was a barnlike .structure. It was decorated with pin© branches, which, having been used for a former entertainment, were dry as tinder. They bore Chinese lanterns and burning candles. After the ticket-holders had been admitted, the single narrow door to the building .wa,s mailed up do prevent I unauthorised persona from obtaining ' acceps. When the fire broke out, the flames spread with astounding rapidity. The dancers, ablaze, crushed and trampled on each other in their rush to the door, which remained closed. * The fall of the roof completed the tragedy. Four hundred men, women, and children were killed or badly burned. OFFICIAL STATEMENT. THE KILLED AND INJURED. (Received March 30, 9.10 a.m.) VIENNA, 29th March. It is officially stated that 300 persons were killed and seventy injured — all seriously — at Oekoerito.
