ATTACKED BY PIRATES.
IN THE RED SEA. THE STEAMER KILBURN. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. MELBOURNE, 20th March. The steamer Kilburn, which has arrived from Grey's Harbour, was the central figure of an exciting incident in the Red Sea on her previous voyage from the United Kingdom to Japan. She struck a reef in the Red Sea, near Farsan Islands, off the coast of Yemen, whereupon sixty boats, with about 800 Bedouin pirates, surrounded her and opened fire, which the crew returned. When the steamer's ammunition was exhausted, the crew escaped in an Arab dhow, which stood by, and eventually brought assistance. Meanwhile the pirates stripped the vessel and got safely away. T/ie Kilburn was eventually towed to Perim-and was repaired. [Tho Kilburn is a Bteel vessel of 3271 tons, built in 1893 by Ropner and Son, Stockton. She is owned Ijy the Britain Steam Ship Company, Ltd. (Watts, Watts, and Co., managers). Her port of registry is London.]
