NEW YORK MURDER.

In connection with tho murder of Ruth Wheeler, a girl of sixteen years, whose paitly-buint mutilated body was found upon tho fire-escape adjoining the rooms occupied by Albeit Polter, a New York stenographer, it transpires that Polter is a youth of eighteen. lie denied teeing tho girl. Some rther belongings were- afterwards found iv a chimney above a grate which the police saw him painting when they first visited tho flat. Polter disappeared, but was arrefmed later. The London Daily Mail's New York correspondent states that it 13 alleged that numbers of girls visited the Mat. It is » sinister coincidence that fifteen girls seeking clerkships have disappeared during the last few weeks. [It was known that the girl Wheeler had applied to Polter for a situation. Poller, prior to the discovery of tho body, had been arrested for the abduction of the girl, and had been admitted to bail.] HOW THE CRIME WAS DISCOVERED. ANOTHER ARREST. (Received March 29, 9 a. in ) NEW YORK, 28th Manh. The murdet was discovered thiough Taggert. a neighbour, noticing what he supposed to be a bundlo of old dothes on the fire-escape. He shoved the bundle from the ledge with a broom, jestingly crying : "Suppose it's murder." The bundle fell into the courtyard, four stories below. Taggert then opened tho parcel and found tho body of tho girl. She had been strangled. The police had previously thoroughly searched Polter's rooms without finding anything. Katie Muller, who lived with Polter, has been arrested as an accessory.
