The Bank of England rate of discount remains at 4^- per cent., to which it was raised an 17th March. The opou market rate of discount for best three month* bills is 1 higher at 3 11-16 per cent., and short loans are | lower at 31 per cent. The open market rate for three months bills in Park is 1 higher, at 2j per cent., while in Berlin it ia unchanged st 3| per cent. BUTTER AND CHEESE. Butter. — The market is easier, the holidays checking- business. Danish is weak at 123s to 129s per out, secondary 116 ato 116s. The quality of many brands is somewhat unsatisfactory. New Zealand choicest, 122s to 1245; secondary, 116s to 120s; Argentine, 122»; Siberian, 120s to 1225. Cheese. — Market firm. New Zealand coloured, 60s to 61s per «wt; white, 62s to 635. METAL MARKETS. Copper.— On the spot, £58 16s 3d; tbreo months, £59 17s 6d; electrolytic, £62. Tin.— On the spot, £148 7i 6d; threemonths, £150 7s 6d. Lead.— £l3. Spelter.— £23. Iron.— sls lOd. Sugar. — German beet, 14* 8d; first marks granulated, 16s 7d. WOOL. The Bradford wool market shows a cheerful tone. Prices for merinos are hardening.
