Sinclair gave notice to move : "That the question of the erection, of a suitable memorial to the memory of the late Edward Gibbon Wakefield be taken into consideration by the Government." He spoke of tho achievements of the founder of this colony, and eloquently argued that his work should be recognised in some suitable way. He said he was not in favour of pretentious monuments, and thought that a suitable bust in Parliament Buildings might meet the case. The Hon. T. K. Macdonald seconded the motion. Several other members also spoke. The Attorney-General (the Hon. Dr. Findlay) said the thanks of the Council were due to Xlr. Sinclair for bringing the motion forward. Ho declared that it would be a poor tribute if it were to be believed that a. thing in stone or other material wait necessary to perpetuate Wakefield's memory. The Prime Minister had already expressed himself •in unequivocal terms in favour of the proposal to recognise Wakefield's achievements, and the Government would do its best to advance the idea.
