SEATS ON OFFER. TO UNIONIST FREETRADERS.

PREPARING FOR THE ELECTION. AN INVITATION TO BLACKBURN By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received October 29, 8.35 a.m.) LONDON, 28lh October. The Unionists at Blackburn, Lancashire, have asked Lord Robert Cecil and Mr. G. S. Bowles to become their candidates at the general election. Sir William Hornby, the present Conservai tive member, will not seek re-election. This solves the difficulties the Unionists of Marylebone East and Norwood are experiencing because of the determination of a large section of their members to run a Tariff Reform candidate. - ♦ Blackburn is now represented by Sir William Hornby, a Conservative, and Mr. P. Snowden, a Labour member. Lord Robert Cecil, who is a son of the late Lord Salisbury, and a prominent member of the Opposition, would not have been opposed for Marylebone if the leaders of his party could have had their way. They also decided that Mr.G. S. Bowles, M.P. for Norwood; the Hon. F. W. Lambton, M.P. for Durham South-east; Mr. Abel H. Smith, M.P. for Hertford, all Conservatives and Freetraders, should not be opposed 6y Unionists. The Unionist associations in the constituencies were approached with a view of obviating tariff reform opposition to the sitting Unionist, but in the case of Marylebone without success.
