WAS IT THE WARATAH?
CAPTAIN OF THE HARLOWS REPORT. BURNING STEAMER OFF AFRICAN COAST. LOCATION OF THE WRECK. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. LONDON, 28th October. Lloyd's have received a detailed account from the captain of the steamer Harlow, who reported, on arrival at Manila od 19th September, having seen a steamer on fire on 27th July off the African coast. This vessel (which it has been suggested may have been the missing Lund liner Waratah) was six miles off when seen by the Harlow, and was smoking fiercely. Two explosions occurred, with an interval of a few (seconds, and then the stranger disappeared. The Harlow's captain says he only heard that the Waratah was missing a few days before he arrived»at Manila, ,and presumes that if it was the Waratah she was returning to Durban. He estimates that the wreck lies in twenty fathoms of water at some point between Cape Hermes and the St. John River (160 miles south-west of Durban).
