Thomson, hon. eecretary of the Canterbury Cricket Association, received a letter from Mr. H. Trumble, Melbourne, to-day, stated that W. Carlton,' of the North Melbourne Club, was willing to accept a two-years' engagement^ as coach to the Canterbury Cricket Association. Carlton is about the best all-round man in his club. The Feilding Club, which has held the Manawatu championship for two seasons, is not only entering its senior team again for the Manawatu Association's contests, but will probably enter two teams for the Guthrie Challenge Cup under the auspices of the Feilding and District Cricket Association, which comprises some half-dozen clubs.

Xew regulations in Anhalt (Gerniany) provide that persons under sixteen years of age may not b© admitted to picture shows ' unless accompanied by an adult, and in another part of the same country children, under fifteen are to be forbidden to see pictures which might possibly exercise an unfavourable influence. Warning notices are to bo placed at the entrances to the theatres, and contravention of either of the or-der-is ia punishable by a fine of 60 marks (about £3).
