VERY HEAVY RAINS. ANOTHER SLIP IN MANAWATU GORGE.

[bt teleghaph — pnEsa association.! PALMERSTON N., sth October. Very heavy rains have fallen to-day, but especially over the Ruahines. In consequence, another large slip came down in tho middle of the Manawatu Gorge, blocking all traffic from 5.30 p.m. Trains were stopped at Woodville and Ashhurst. Gangs are now at work, and it is hoped to get the lino clear so as to resume railway communication to-mor-row forenoon. WOODVILLE, This Day. One big slip in the Gorge was between two large tunnels. This was cleared during the night, but a very'large one — 300 yards in length — came down about a mile in tho Gorge from the station at the Woodville end. There is no chance of this being cleared to-day, but trains will run to both sides ofi the slip, and passengers and mails will be transhipped. RIVERS FLOODED. Farmers as well as fishers are disgruntled at Ihe further flooding of our rivers -and streams, and the approaches thereto.
