FREE KINDERGARTEN TEACHING

Fowlds this afternoon from the Auckland Kindergarten Association, with the view of getting Government a.'-sistauce in providing fiee kindergarten teaching for the children of the poor in Auckland. , Mr. Brooke Smith, the hon. secretary of the association, said they were negotiating foi the engagement of a trainer who had graduated in one of the kindergarten colleges, either in England or America. The expenses of securing this director and of obtaining suitable premises with the requisite apparatus would probably amount to between £350 and £400 per annum, and the appeal to the public to supply this woukf be much more fruitful if it were known that ffll subscriptions would be supplemented by an equal amount from the Government. j Mr. Fowlds said the department would be quite prepared to deal with the association's work the way they did in Dunodin. They would pa.y capitation of £2 per head on the number of children attending the kindergarten school.
