This is not so serious as might have been at Jlrst anticipated from the cabled reports, and fiom the fact that the Tongaiiro, which collided in the same neighbourhood in similar t ircunislancos, was detained six weeks for u>paiis. MELBOURNE LEFT NEWCASTLE. A cable mesbage from Newcastle states that the collier Melbourne bailed from there' to-day for Welliiißlon. She brings p. shipment of coal which, it is repoited, is to be distributed among Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne. The vessel is due here about Saturday next. WAKANUI. TARAWERA LEAVES TO-MORROW. It has been decided in view of the arrival of the Athenic trom London to-morrow morning with a large number of passengers, to postpone tlie departure of the Tarawera for iNapier, Gisborne, and Auckland, till to-mor-io.v, instead ot despatching her this afternoon. Tiiu London passengers, who have booked iot northern ports, will then be able to tranship and proceed to their destinations without deby. Early this moining the Kahu left Wellington for East Coast ports, but owing to a stiff (southerly wind and swell, it was tound that to work the bays would be impossible. 'Ihe vessel jccoichngly returned to Wellington, and will wait until the weather moderates. To-morrow tho Government steamer Hinemoa is, to leave New Plymouth for French Pass. She is expected to reach Wellington to-moriow night.
