ANOTHER TRAIN FOR JOHNSONVILLE.

Some two or three months ago, Mr. J. V P. Luke, M.P., introduced to the Minister for Railways, (Hon. J. A. Millar) a large deputation, comprising members of the local authorities and residents of the suburban districts adjoining the Manawatu railway line, and impressed upon the Minister the disabilities experienced by the residents, and the travelling public generally, caused "by the present unsatisfactory time-table arrangements. Mr. Luke pointed out that the dropping out of the 6.20 p.m. Saturday train was proving a serious drawback to the suburban districts, as under the present conditions there were no means of communication between the city and Johnsonville ,on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9.20 p.m. An additional request was preferred for a train to leave Johnsonville at 2 p.m. for Wellington. At the time M<P. Luke had the assurance of the Minister that every consideration would be given to the deputation's requests. To-day Mr. Luke informed a representative of The Post that the Minister, after demonstration of the working of the railway since he took over control, had now decided to run a train leaving the city at 6.20 p.m. for Johnsonville, on Saturdays. The time of its return, says Mr. Luke, has not yet been decided upon. The request that the up mail train should stop at Khandallah couid not be given effect to, enquiries instituted (wrote the Minister) making it quite clear that the traffic was not sufficient to warrant the same. Since the time of the deputation, Mr. "Luke has been in constant communication_ with Mr. Millar on these matters, receiving the leply as above to-day. ________________ Apples are in most demand in the fruit markets at present.
