A VESSEL BEACHED.
[BY TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GISBOBNE, This Day. A very heavy gale prevailed along the East Coast last night. The auxiliary schooner Kaeo, which left iGkborne for Auckland on Sunday, was in Tokomaru May, and weathered the ptorin all the night, but this morning, being in a dangerous position, and unaile to work out of the loadstead, Cap'ain Skinner, by very skilful seamanship, .beached the vessel in a good position near the small wharf. The crew were supplied with, lifebelts. But for the fine .handling o* the vessel a calamity might have occurred. '±tle vessel is reported to be undamaged, and in a safe position. The weather is still very rough.
At the Makara County Council's meeting to-day the following were present :— Councillors Bryant (chairman), Eastwood, Moore, Hawkins, Haggerty, and Monk. Accounts totalling £* r ?s' 19a 9<? were passed for payment.
