OLD AGE PENSIONERS AND WAGES.
0 [BY TELEGnAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] FEILDING, This Day. Old-age pensioners applying to the Borough Council for work, on account of the slackness of employment, have been refused, because they cannot be expected to do a fair day's labour. The Mayor explains that under the general labourers' award the council is compelled to pay Is per hour, and applicants admit they are not worth it. The Mayor thinks the Government should introduce legislation exempting old-ago pensioners from all awards as a part-solution of the difficulty.
