CONSTABLE-STREET TO MOUNT VICTORIA.

PROPOSED NEW ROAD. Reference was made in The Post, yesterday, to a scheme of the city engineer for improving the approaches to Mount Victoria through the Town Belt. His proposal is to construct, a carriage drive from Constable-street to the summit of the mountain on the eastern side, and thus make it possible for sightseers to Approach and leave the eminence by diffeient routes that would disclose separate points of interest, and both make good vantage grounds from which to view the city's panorama. The ground to be traversed by the proposed road has been marked oflf already, and no engineering surveys are necessary. Plain, ordinary road-making is all that would be required from beginning to end of the proposed undertaking, and it is claimed that even the most inexperienced iiavvy could make a good showing at such work. The road would start from i a point not far from the terminus of the Constable-street tramway, - and would j follow the eastward side' of the long spur H lhat runs from that locality to the spot j where the present wheeled traffic road j ■up the secondary height of Mount Victoria abruptly terminates.
