Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., to-day introduced to the Minister of Marine (the Hon. J. A. Millar) Mr. Fi.=her, the inventor of a non-capMzable lifeboat. Mr. Fisher wished to know whether the Government would .specify his invention to be canied on ships (registered in New Zealand) in place of the regular type of lifeboat. The Minister replied that in his opinion there were certain deficiencies in tho boat, and that the results of the firpt trial were not sufficiently convincing. He offered to allow Mr. Fisher to give another trial on an occasion when the Government tleamer was going out of Enquiries have been received by the Industries and Commorce Department from a firm in Waudsbeck, Germany, for information as to supplies and prices of hemp ; also canned Iruits and jams. It was pointed out in the letter that "phormium lenax has now a wellpaying market in Germany." The case of John Milesi and Josepii Ingle, fishmongers, v. William HurcoraD, fishmonger, which was referred by the Appeal Court back to the Magistrate's Court, was being heard before Dr. M'Arthur, S.M., this afternoon as The Post went to press. The claim is for 1£64 6s 2d, being the unliquidated balance of a partnership account between plaintiffs and defendant, and due at the time of the determination of the partnership. The funeral of the late Mr. Russell Hal ley, for some years in the employ of Messrs. Bing, Harris, and Co., and previously wi^i Messrs. Sargood, Son, and Ewen, took place this "afternoon. The deceased had been a member of the Phoenix Cricket Club, Wellington Lieder.tafel, and Wellington Commercial Travellers' Club, representatives of which followed his remains to the Kaion Cemetery. Messrs. Bing, Harris and Company's waiehouse was closed in order that the employees might attend the funeral. Othov ioft goods firms in tho city were aUo represented.
