<m CHAMPIONSHIP OF WELLINGTON. Good progress was made last evening with the second round of tho tournament, which is now proceeding nightly in the rooms of the Wprlcing Men's Club to decide the above title. The play was again watched by a large number of enthusiasts. The details are as follows: — Leggatt, the Working Men's Club crack, won from Darling of the Petone Working Men's Club by three games to love. "The match was, however, a much better contest than the score indicates. For instance, tho last game occupied two hours and a half, and was full of possibilities right up to the end. In the contest M'Pherson (of Wadestown) v. C. Reed, the former scored 2j> to Mr. Reed' 3li Mr. Reed, however, claims that his opponent had first move three times instead of twice, and has accordingly lodged a protest, which the committee will be called on to decide this evening. The match between Mesers. Butler (hon. sec of the Waterside Workers' Draughts Club) and M'Kenzie (a new arrival from Scotland) resulted in favour of tho former by 3 wins to 1. This being Mr. Ji'.Kenzie's second loss, he retires from l!ic conieot. which, as previously explained, is being conducted on what is known <>.<; the '"two-life knock out system." At the remaining table, Mr. Moufton scored 2 wins to Mr. Reilty's 1, time not permitting of the fourth game being got off. Tho third round commonces this evening. On lhe_, run of the play Mr. Lefcgatt's rhances of securing the championship appear to be the brightest, he being the o.'il- player that has not loot a single game
