AMERICAN TARIFF.
o PASSED BY THE SENATE. DUTY IMPOSED ON FOREIGN SHIPPING. (By Telegraph.-Press Association.—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, 7th July. The Senate, sitting as a Committee of the Whole House, has passed the Payne 'Tariff Bill, with an amendment relating to shipping. This imposes a duty of two cents a ton (payable once in any one year) on the tonnage of all vessels entering United States ports from foreign ports in North, Central, and ceitain countries in South America ; and a tax of six cents and not exceeding thirty cents per ton per annum on vessels from all other foreign ports. These duties eliminate the former provision* for reciprocity in shipping dues.
