IN FAR CATHAY. BRITISH TRAVELLER MURDERED.

TREACHEROUS NATIVES. By Telegraph.— Press Assooiatiottj—Copycightj (Received June 14, 10.5 a.m^) SYDNEY, This Day. Chinese files give details of the murder of Mr. Brooks, an English traveller, in the Lalo country, in Western China, on the Tibetan frontier. Brooks was accompanied by an escort of seven Chinese, including an interpreter. The last-named deserted. A native attempted to attack the traveller with a sword, but Brooks drew a revolver and shot him dead. The party then took refuge with another tribe, who, pretending friendship, induced Brooks to surrender his firearms. They then called in the previously hostile tribesmen, who massacred Brooks and four of his escort. The other two attendants were sold into slavery.
