AUSTRALIAN GAME.
WELLINGTON v. H.M.'S. CHALLENGER. A team from H.'M.S. Challenger tried to beat representatives of the Wellington Club (Australian rule*.) at the Basin Reserve, and succeeded for ten minutes, following the opening bounce-. Before the local men had realised what the sailors were about, they were torpedoed and half-sunk. Quickly the bluejackets put on two goals, but their victorious career was checked almost as suddenly as it had begun. The city athletes were in better in condition and experience than tho majority of the visitors, and soon demonstrated their superiority. A match, which was moderately interesting, closed in favour of Wellington by 66 points (nine goals, twelve behinds) to 47 (seven goa.ls, five behinds).
