Island Bay met [Mount Cook 11. at Xe-wtown Park, the former winning by 9 to 0. The scorers for the winners were Curtis and Knight, and Curtis also kicked a goal from a penalty. Terrace beat Te Aro by 42 to 5.

The Wakanui, which arrived from London this morning, is a. kind of floating menagerie. She had on board a handsome present of animal's from his Grace the Duke of Bedford to the Wellington Zoo.. The gifts include several rhea, or South American ostriches, blue sheep of Tibet, llamas, and hog-deer. The animals have arrived in excellent condition, and, given proper care, should prove most valuable additions to the growing collection al Newtown Park. On a recent Saturday afternoon the police made a raid on the Paragon boardinghouse in Taranaki-place, and yesterday, as a result, charges were brought against Mary Ann Wright, otherwise known as Mary Jane Barrie, and David Bamc. The 'charge against the. former is that she did unlawfully sell liquor to James Wykes. There are two informations against the male defendant — (1) that on the 15th May, being the occupier of unlicensed premises, in which liquor was sold, he was privy to such sale ; and (2) that on the sd9th May, he was found in the boardinghouse at the time liquor was seized, and it is deemed that he was there for tho purpose of illegally dealing in liquor. On the application of Air. Kirkcaldie, who appeared for defendants, a remand to the 21s*; instant was granted. At the New Zealand boxing championship tournament, to be held in Dunedin on the 22nd and 23rd instant, the Wellington Boxing Association will be represented by "YV. F. Wcnand in the bantam class, L. Porter and R. Cairns in the featherweight, W. J. Smith in the lightweight, and G. Watchorn in the welter A tourney is to be held in the Wellington Town Hall, by the association, on 29th July, when a 15-rminds professional contest will be the main attraction. Three amateur bouts, of six rounds each, will bo contested on the Fame evening : W. J. Iggulden v. J. Kntner (bantams), L. Porter v. E. j Cairns (feathers), and 0. Tanored v. 0. | J. Parry (welters). John Gardine Ewing was yesterday, in the 'Magistrate's Court, bound over to keep the peace for one year towards his wife Grace Nellie Ewing. Defendant was also ordered to r/nv costs (£3 6s).
