Tho legacy of two hundred thousand pounds left by !M. Chaaichaid, proprietor of tho 'Magasiiis dv -Louvre, to exPresident Loubet, was due to his signing the decree whereby 'M. Chauchard became a member of the Legion of Honour. iM. Loube-t has refused the bequest, which will go to the hospital. There was an enormous concourse at 'M.. Chauchard's funeral.* The waistcoast in which the deceased was buried was covered with pearl buttons, worth half i million francs (£20y000). The crowd was disrespectful to the d«ad, many persons snatching flowers from the bier.
