LICENSES IN KING COUNTRY.
The fcllowing motion was passed by the Star of Wellington Lodge. 1.0. G.T. : — "That this meeting of the Star of Wellington Lodge, 1.0. G.T., enters its emphatic protest against the granting of wholesale licenses for the sale of liquor in the King Country, regarding such action as a gross violation of the treaty made by the Government with the Maoris of tho King Country, these licenses having beerj granted by the deliberative and casting vote of tho presiding Magistrate, against the majority ot the elected members This lodge also resolves to bring the matter under tha notice o£ tho Attorney-General." Mavis Castle, of the Newtown Diatrict High School, was one of the winners .in the Industrial Week Essay Competition, the title of her essay being, "Why We Should Support Local Industries."
