The newspaper Age, m an article dealing with the condition of the city, says :—": — " In all weathers and in all seasons, Melbourne! persists in being one of the filthiest cities in the civilised world. During the recent wet weather the whole dry at night was anointed with pure beastliness. Collins-street was simply carpeted with filth." The paper strongly denounces the citizens for tolerating such a state of things.
