FUTURE OF CRETE.
A REQUEST TO THE POWERS. By Telegraph. -Press Association.— Copyright. (Received June 11, 8.45 a.m.) CONSTANTINOPLE, 10th June. The Porte has requested the Powers to consider the matter of postponing the evacuation of Crete. Under an agreement made in 1898, Crete has self-government under the suzerainty of Turkey, Prince George of Greece being appointed High Commissioner, and order being preserved by contingents of troops belonging to the European Powers. Notice was given a week ago that it was intended to withdraw the international troops in July, a step which would probably be followed by an endeavour to annex the island to Greece.
