CORRESPONDENCE. THE ZOO.

TO TOT XSITOB. Sir, — I notice in your correspondence ©1' to-nighfs issue an article by one who signs himself "Visitor," in which ha says he has seen the man whose duty it is to feed the lion, throw in the meat, but never does he give it a drop of water. If "Visitor" would like to see the lion have a drink he -will have to be at Newtown 'Park before 8.15 a.m., as the lion is. and has always been, the first consideration, »nd as 1 was the one whoso duty ifc was te look after him, until a few weeks ago, i can say he always had all the water necessary. The same remark applies equally to the other animals and birds, as they were given clean water each day. If ''Visitor" took the trouble to open' his eyes he would have seen in every eags, or run, where water was b necessity, a clean enamel dish Kept well supplied all «-; hrough. Surely *'Visitor" will allow i e keepers, who are looking after the animals and birds at the Zoo, to have some intelligence and knowledge of the requirements of the different species under their charge, and much more so than any casual visitor, many who look for things of which they are ignorant of, and consequently '"fall in" rather heavily. It is an easy matter to rush into print with complaints, but more difficult, in the case of those with limited knowledge, to provide remedies ; and let me assure "Visitor," that the neglect to keep water supplied, as ho puts il, has in no single instance been tho cause of death to either animals, birds, or reptiles. — I am, etc., T. W. 15feh May.
