rr-BESB ASSOCIATION.! INVERCARGILL, 11th May. The Hospital Trust to-night considered a complaint that a patient had been allowed to go unattended to a dentist's. The Trust resolved " That, after hearing the evidence, the Trust thinks that the treatment received by Selwood (the patient) whilst in the hospital was all right, but that it would have been better if the patient had not been sent to a dentist to have his teeth extracted. The doctor to be asked to be more careful in future in allowing patients to go out." Some feeling was shown at the meeting. EMPLOYERS AND PREFERENCE TO UNIONISTS. INVERCARGILL, 11th May. The Southland branch of the Employers' Association has decided to confirm the resolution recently passed by the Advisory Board, protesting against the inclusion of preference to unionists' clauses in industrial awards. It was also decided to recommend employers to observe 3rd June (Prince of Wales's Birthday) as a- general holiday, in preference to 24th May. RAILWAY CROSSING KEEPERS. palmerston n., nth May. The conference of East and West Coast Chambers of Commerce to-day resolved that, owing to the serious loss .of life at railway crossings, the time has arrived when the Government should appoint crossing keepers to guard the railway line in busy thoroughfares. CHRISTCHURCH, lltn May. Mr. H. W. Bishop, S.M., left Christchurch iior Ilanmer to-day to hold an enquiry into the discipline maintained at the prison camp. Mr. W. C. Kensington (Under-Secretary .for Lands) and Mr. E. C. Goldsmith (Commissioner of Lands for Canterbury" district) went to Hanmer to report on the progress of the plantations. It is understood that the future of the work, and whether the plantations shall be extended or not, will depend on the report of the officers mentioned.
