Both are within a few miles of Hastings, .^lax■mere w.as purchased from Sir William Russell a year ago by Mr. Gaisfovd.
The old' man, Thomas Brodie, who was"| • remanded at the Magistrate's Court the -other day ior being lound in -St. Joseph's ■Church, Badde-street, without lawful -excuse, 'again appeared • in -the dock this morning, charged with being a rogue ■and a vagabond In addition, he "was • charged, -on two informations, withistealing two pairs of boots belonging to A. 'Drmdore. The court was informed by Sub-Inspector Phair that accused had been an inmate of the Old Men's Home. He left the institution, and refused to go -back. A constable arrested him in they .porch of the church one night at midnight. Accused admitted that he had slept there before. One pair of the stolen boots he had on ; the other pair was found in his possession. For the •itheft a sentence jjf fourteen days' imprisonment was inflicted on each charge, and for vagrancy the punishment was fixed at three months' imprisonment. The sentences were made concurrent. The Land and Income Tax Department gives notice that returns of 'income must be furnished not later than let June. The monthly meeting of Hie Accountant Students' Society will be held this evening. The latest date of entry for the Trinity College of Mu3ic practical examinations, 19Q&, is uxed as 25th May.
